In carrying out an assessment of where we now stand in our P21 decision making process, it has become clear that we will not have completed all the analysis necessary in time to schedule and hold a community meeting in February.
There is a tremendous amount of data analysis and modeling necessary to fully evaluate each of our viable options. Additionally, we firmly believe that the public needs adequate time to review and provide comments on the results. In our continuing dialogue with HDR about the time needed to complete that work, we believe that a community meeting date this summer is most likely.
Though a February time frame was in our original plan, our belief is that being accurate and thorough in this matter is better than being quick. Given the importance and impact of our future generation decisions, we feel that an extension for the completion of the analysis is prudent.
As HDR goes about the process of completing its work, we will also request from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality a time extension on the air permit for the DeYoung project. Though we obviously have made no decisions regarding the project we believe it is important to preserve that option until the sustainable return on investment (SROI) work has been completed. We also believe that the request for a time extension is a reasonable one and that it will be granted by MDEQ.
Thank you for your patience as we work to the conclusion of this important process, and please contact us if you have any questions about the change in timing.
